I like basketball and heatmaps
This one is just a chart. Every shot Stephen Curry took in his unanimous-MVP 2015-16 season, hexed by where it came from and colored by field-goal percentage — choose a different player in the dropdown.
Some datasets don't need a thesis. The 2015-16 play-by-play logs record the x, y coordinate of all 207,895 shots taken that regular season, and I just wanted to draw the prettiest possible heatmap.
It's been done many times... Stephen Curry's unanimous-MVP year — the season he made 402 threes, a single-season record that still stands. Each hexagon is a patch of floor. Bigger means he shot from there more often; warmer means he made a higher share than the league did from that distance. Pick a different name from the dropdown to see how everyone else carved up the court.
